In a statement release Plan Action said that the protest was aimed at preventing the release of greenhouse gas emissions. The group vowed to use whatever peaceful means were possible.

The runway was eventually closed for security purposes. The protest began at 3am when security was broken by an unknown number of people. 52 flights had to be cancelled by Ryanair including services to Porto, Berlin, Oslo and Gdansk.

Long delays were experienced by passengers due to the protests.

According to their report, young drivers are the worst offenders. The research puts texting and driving right up there with being under the influence of drugs and alcohol in the danger stakes.

The RAC carried out a report which showed that 48% of drivers between 18 and 24 used their phone for text messages while driving despite the stringent laws against it. In studies held on drivers between 17 and 24 it was found that the possibility of accidents were greatly improved while texting.

Perhaps it was best to have spent July in the west with Shannon Airport having the hottest day of the month at 25.3 degrees on the 24th of July.  Ireland tourist board officials insisted that the wet summer was normal for an Irish climate; however the bad weather took a heavy toll on the country’s tourism.
